Vegan Pie Beats Out Pork to Win British Pie Awards


Meat butcher store Jon Thorner’s won the “Supreme Champion” title for its vegan pie during the 10th annual British Pie Awards hosted by Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association. The winning dish comprised a sweet potato and butternut squash filling and was a first for Jon Thorner’therefore, which beat out 866 entrants (68 of that dipped in the vegan category) throughout the contest. &ldquoWe’re so thrilled at the amount of achievement our vegan pie has needed,” proprietor Jon Thorner stated . “There are quite a few challenges to making a fantastic dish dish and this has cracked it,” mind judge Colin Woodhead said about the dish dish that is winning. “The pastry was exceptional with a crispness that complimented the filling. ” The British Pie awards included a vegan category for the first time this year to update the contest to reflect changing consumer preferences. “We started off small with the thought to celebrate pies, because they’re among the wonderful gifts to the planet from British cuisine,” contest chairman Matthew O’Callaghan said. “The pie is for everyone. ”
